Even if you brush and floss every day, you still need to schedule regular exams and cleanings every six months.  These appointments will help you maintain your smile for your entire life.

We take a three-pronged approach to semiannual dental exams.

Step 1 – We check for hidden problems. Problems fall into a variety of categories. We might notice that your gums are receding, which could be a sign of gum disease. We also might find teeth that are chipped, cracked, or decaying. Our thorough examination allows our dentists to find all issues. If you schedule two appointments a year, we will be able to catch the problems early, before they become serious problems.

Step 2 – We clean your teeth. We provide a thorough cleaning that you can’t get with your toothbrush and dental floss at home. During this process, we clean and polish your teeth, and then rinse them to get rid of tartar and plaque. You’ll leave our office looking like a new person.

Step 3 – We come up with a treatment plan if needed. Many of our patients just require a cleaning, but some have additional issues. If we find problems with your teeth, we will go over your treatment options with you.

These sessions take approximately 45 minutes. We only provide exams and cleanings for patients who have an appointment, so contact us today to schedule your appointment.

bonding

If you have chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth, bonding might be the right procedure for you. Our patients like it because it is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments. It’s also less time-consuming. You will likely only have to come in for a single visit to get this procedure done.

During this treatment, one of our dentists will place white filling on your tooth. Just as the name suggests, the filling bonds with your tooth. We can achieve a natural look by choosing a tooth-colored shade that matches your teeth.

Along with using tooth bonding to change the appearance of your teeth, you can also use it for fillings. Unlike silver amalgam fillings that stand out, these white fillings aren’t very noticeable.

While bonding is an excellent procedure, it is prone to chipping and breaking, and the bond can also become discolored. Our dentists are always available to patch or repair bonding. This procedure only takes a single visit.

If you have missing teeth, you need to fix the problem immediately. Over time, your teeth will shift to fill in the space. That can hurt your bite and cause TMJ. It can even distort the shape of your face. Fortunately, a bridge will fix this problem.

Bridges are constructed of gold, alloys, or porcelain, or they can be made of a variety of materials. They are made to look like teeth. The bridge is placed in the empty spot, and our dentists bond it to your existing teeth. That way, you don’t have to worry about your bridge falling out.

If you decide to get a bridge, one of our dentists will examine your mouth’s support system. You need healthy teeth, gums, and bone to support the bridge.

You also need to keep your teeth, gums, and jaw healthy after the bridge is placed. Semiannual checkups are a good way of ensuring that your mouth stays healthy enough to support your bridge.

If you have a weak or misshapen tooth that you want to save, a crown might be in order. People typically get crowns when their teeth are worn, broken, or decayed and aren’t strong enough to support a filling.

Crowns act as caps. Our dentists put crowns on the visible portion of the tooth, creating a new outer surface. Once it is applied, it strengthens the tooth and restores its shape. While you can get a crown made of porcelain, metal, or a combination of the two, our dentists typically recommend porcelain crowns. These look just like real teeth so no one will know that you had a dental procedure.

Crowns don’t just look like real teeth. They feel like real teeth, too. In fact, we use an outside lab to craft crowns based on your tooth’s unique impression. The technician then crafts the crown based on your bite and jaw movements. This allows the crown to feel just like a real tooth.

Mint Dental offers full and partial dentures to patients who have lost some or all of their teeth. While full dentures fill up the entire mouth, partial dentures connect to the remaining teeth. In both cases, the dentures look like natural teeth so you can smile with confidence.

It is essential that you care for your dentures properly. Instead of using toothpaste, go with a gentle cleanser to clean your dentures. Also, clean your tongue, gums, and remaining teeth (if applicable) before putting your dentures in your mouth.

In some cases, a tooth extraction is the best option. Tooth extractions are necessary for a variety of reasons, ranging from baby teeth that won’t fall out on their own to permanent teeth that are filled with decay.

Often, we are able to remove the tooth during the initial visit, but sometimes, we may have to schedule another appointment for the procedure. This is often a simple procedure, but in some cases, we have to go into the jawbone to extract the root from the socket. If we have to do that, we have sedation options available.

We also need to decide what to do after removing the tooth. If it is a baby tooth, we will likely just wait for the new tooth to come in. However, if it is a permanent tooth, you may need to get a bridge or an implant. Otherwise, the remaining teeth might shift to fill the void left by the extracted one. That can lead to various dental issues.

We offer both traditional and new styles of dental fillings. Traditional fillings are made of gold, porcelain, or composite materials and are typically used for back teeth. Modern fillings are composed of plastic and ceramic compounds and are used for front teeth. They blend right in since they are made to look like real teeth.

We provide direct and indirect fillings. Direct filings go right into the cavity and fill the hole, while indirect filings consist of veneers or inlays that include the filling material. Indirect fillings typically require at least two dental visits to complete.

Fluoride isn’t just available in toothpaste. You can get a fluoride treatment when you visit Mint Dental.

Fluoride treatments keep plaque from building up in your mouth and also fight against tooth decay. Treatments are fast and easy, and they require minimal aftercare. You simply have to avoid eating, drinking, and rinsing for a certain amount of time so the fluoride can get to work.

Let one of our dentists examine your teeth to determine how often you should get a fluoride treatment. Treatments can range from every three months to once a year.

Missing teeth can cause problems with your bite, and they can make your face sag, causing you to look much older than you really are. They can also lead to TMJ and other issues. Fortunately, you can avoid any problems by getting dental implants at Mint Dental.

Made of porcelain and metal, implants look and function like real teeth. Implants contain titanium roots and tooth-colored crowns that look just like real teeth.

Along with using implants to replace teeth, our dentists also use them to keep dentures in place. If your dentures shift when you talk, chew, or smile, contact us about implant restoration.

Protecting your teeth during sports should be a priority. A stray elbow or a powerful tackle can cause you to hurt your gums or even lose a tooth. Mouthguards provide your gums, lips, and teeth with the protection you need to go full steam ahead when playing sports.

Choose from premade, “boil and bite,” and custom-fitted mouthguards. If you want the ultimate in protection, go with custom-fitted mouthguards. Our dentists will take impressions of your teeth and create a mouthguard made just for you.

Your headaches, earaches, and jaw pain might not be caused by illness or tension. You might have bruxism. Grinding and clenching your teeth are also signs of this condition.

If you try to live with this condition, you can end up breaking, cracking, or losing your teeth. On top of that, constant headaches, jaw pain, and earaches are not fun.

Nightguards are the perfect treatment for bruxism. These guards slip right into your mouth and keep your teeth where they should be all night long.

Mint Dental can custom-fit a nightguard for you. Schedule an appointment so that we can get started.

Section of the tooth. pulp with nerves and blood vessels.

Bacteria is always looking for a way inside of your teeth. If your tooth has a big crack or a deep cavity, bacteria has easy access to the pulp tissue. The germs can cause an infection, which, in turn, can lead to an abscess which is incredibly uncomfortable and can injure your jawbone.

Back in the old days, you would have to get your tooth pulled if this happened. Now, though, you can get a root canal.

If you get a root canal, one of our dentists will take out the affected tissue and clean the tooth. Once it is cleaned, your dentist will seal it up and fill it with a dental composite. In the case of severe decay, you might also need to get a crown. The crown will strengthen your tooth so you won’t have to worry about it breaking.

Depending on the severity of your issue, your root canal treatment could take one to three visits. Contact Mint Dental to find out more about root canal treatments.

Wisdom Teeth 3

Teeth are full of hard-to-clean grooves and fissures. If you can’t get your toothbrush into these places, bacteria will set in, and you could end up with cavities. You can fight against this problem by getting plastic resin dental sealants.

The sealants go right on top of the teeth. They bond to the grooves, smoothing out the teeth so you can brush them with ease.

Mint Dental offers sealants for both baby and permanent teeth. While they typically last from three to five years, some people still have sealants from when they were children. If the sealant does come off, your dentist can repair the issue quickly.

Gaps, stains, chips and other abnormalities can make you self-conscious about your smile. If you want to get your confidence back, consider getting veneers. Veneers are custom-made and cover the front of your teeth. They are thin and made from materials that look just like teeth, so you don’t have to worry about anyone knowing that you got some help in the smile department.

To make sure that your veneers fit perfectly, we will start by creating a model of your teeth. Then, we will send it out to a dental technician, who will create the veneers from scratch. Once your veneers come back from the technician, you just need to come in and have them placed.

Wisdom teeth don’t come in with the rest of your permanent teeth. They typically make their appearance when people are in their late teens or early twenties. In some cases, they erupt through the gums and are visible. In other cases, they fail to erupt because there isn’t enough room in the mouth. These are referred to as impacted wisdom teeth.

Impacted wisdom teeth can be very uncomfortable. Your gums might become tender and swell, and you might even end up in severe pain.

Wisdom teeth that do erupt can also be problematic. They are hard to reach, making it difficult to clean them. Because of that, they often decay and can even cause gum disease.

With all of these problems, it is normal for people to remove their wisdom teeth. It’s recommended that people do this when they are in their late teens or early twenties. In most cases, the roots haven’t had a chance to fully form yet. Also, the bone surrounding the teeth is less dense.

The extraction process starts with your dentist numbing the area. Once you are numbed up, the dentist will remove some of the bone that covers the tooth. Then, he or she will begin taking the tooth out in sections.

After your wisdom teeth are removed, your dentist will send you home to recover. You will have special instructions to follow based on the difficulty of the extraction.
